I am a paramedical professional working in the U.K.  For the longest time I suffered from severe pain due to fibroids in the uterus and managed to carry on my work with painkillers. Since the past two years, the pain was unbearable, and the fibroids seemed to be growing at an alarming rate. Even, extensive workouts, had no effect on my growing paunch.

I consulted Gynaecologists in the UK and they recommended surgery to remove the fibroids but said that hysterectomy might have to be performed. In India too, I was recommended a hysterectomy. Naturally, not being married and fairly young, removal of uterus was not an option that appealed to me. Back in Mumbai ,with my family, I sought  an opinion with a gynaecologist,and Dr Kiran Coelho was highly recommended to me. I visited her at Hinduja HealthCare Hospital at Khar, and immediately felt at ease with her warmth and confidence. She explained to me that preserving the uterus ,given the fact that there were so many large fibroids, was a daunting task, but she would try her best. I felt extremely confident  with Dr Coelho and the hospital and went ahead with the surgery.

I understand that the Laparoscopic Myomectomy operation was a marathon session which lasted around 4 hours!!!  Dr Kiran Coelho used all her skill, expertise and experience to preserve my uterus!! After coming out of anaesthesia,the first thing I asked was whether my uterus was intact! I was pleased to hear that the operation was successful, and  amazed ,that Dr Coelho had removed a record number of 44 fibroids. In fact, my family and I were overawed when we viewed the video recording of the surgery. I recovered well ,and was up and about pretty  fast and discharged soon.

The hospital staff was amazing. The nurses and junior doctors were very caring and sensitive to my needs. I did not feel I was in hospital, more like being pampered in my own home! I am extremely grateful  to Dr Kiran Coelho, words are not enough to thank her for her wonderful skill! She not only saved my uterus , but saved me as a person! I owe a debt of gratitude to her. After my experience I feel that all women who have large fibroids like me, should avail of laparoscopic myomectomy to save their uterus and fertility. Later on, God willing, when I get pregnant I will surely come to Mumbai, for Dr Kiran Coelho to deliver my baby at Hinduja HealthCare Hospital, Khar!!!
