24 years ago, my husband and I met Dr. Kiran Coelho at Holy Family Hospital. We were keen on starting a family and were having problems conceiving a child. Dr. Coelho was enthusiastic, warm and professional. She counselled and guided us and after two operations we conceived our first child. Dr. Coelho stood by us throughout two pregnancies and delivered our lovely daughters who are now 22 and 19.

She was always approachable, took all our calls promptly, and answered all our queries with great patience. We felt confident and secure under her patient care. In fact, in those days, Dr. Kiran Coelho, in spite of her busy schedule, used to take pre-natal classes at Holy Family Hospital on Saturdays. The classes used to be absolutely packed with expectant parents to be, and Dr. Coelho gave informative audio-visuals and tips on dos and don’ts during pregnancy, diet, nutrition, preparation for childbirth, painless labour etc.

The husbands who attended her class were allowed in the labour room, to give support to their wives and share the joy of childbirth. We are so happy that Dr. Coelho is still practicing and now my daughters visit her for advice. I do hope she’s still around to deliver their babies when the time comes.
